How to Print from a Chromebook
- Make sure your printer is connected to the same network as your Chromebook
- On your Chromebook, navigate to Settings > Advanced > Printing > Printers
- Click Add Printer
- Select your printer from the list and click Add
If that doesn't work..
If the above method did not work for you, it's likely because your printer isn't supported. But there's good news! There are multiple ways to setup a printer to print from a Chromebook.
There are basically 3 methods for setting up a printer on a Chromebook: 1. Adding a printer via settings (the above method) 2. HP Print for Chrome (only works with HP printers) 3. Google Cloud Print.
The following setup wizard will walk you through the steps of setting up your printer if that first method didn't work for you:
Do you have an HP printer?
HP Print for Chrome
First thing's first, connect your printer to your home network following the instructions included with the printer.
HP Print for Chrome
Next, download this Chrome Extension: HP Print for Chrome
HP Print for Chrome
Click "Add printers by IP address"
HP Print for Chrome
Click "+ Add printer"
HP Print for Chrome
Give the printer a name, and enter the printer's IP address (refer to printer manual to retrieve IP. Can be found using the printer's LCD screen)
HP Print for Chrome
That's it! Go ahead and close the dialog box, and from now on when you open the print dialog box (ctrl P) you should see your HP printer in the list of options.
Didn't work? Hop on over to the official Google Chromebook Community, and one of the Product Experts will help you troubleshoot.
Google Cloud Print
For all non-HP printers, Google Cloud Print is typically the best printing solution.
Google Cloud Print works best with Google Cloud Print ready printers. Look for the Google Cloud Print logo on the box.
Google Cloud Print
Great! Your printer is Google Cloud Print ready. Before we begin, make sure to connect your printer to your home network following the instructions included with the printer.
Google Cloud Print
That's it! Once you've setup your printer on Google Cloud Print per the instructions from the last step, you should see your printer on the list of options whenever you open the print dialog box (ctrl P).

Google Cloud Print
If your printer does not directly support Google Cloud Print, it is referred to as a "Classic" printer. Classic printers can still be used with Google Cloud Print, but there's a couple extra steps, and another computer required.
For this to work, you will need a Windows, or Mac computer connected to your home network, and capable of installing the printer's driver/software.
Google Cloud Print
Once your printer is connected to your local network, the first step is to setup your printer on your Windows or Mac computer, per the instructions included with the printer.
Google Cloud Print
Now that your printer is setup on your Windows/Mac machine, you'll need to install the Chrome browser, if you don't already have Chrome installed.
Google Cloud Print
Once Chrome finishes installing, make sure you sign into Chrome using your gmail account
Google Cloud Print
After you've signed into Chrome, navigate to Chrome's printer settings by typing chrome:settings/printing into the Chrome omni bar and hitting enter (or return).
Google Cloud Print
Click on Google Cloud Print
Google Cloud Print
Click on Manage Cloud Print devices
Google Cloud Print
If you successfully setup your printer on this Windows/Mac machine earlier, you should see your printer listed under "New Devices". Click the Register button.
Google Cloud Print
The rest of the process will be different for each printer manufacturer, but should be pretty quick and simple. Follow the prompts to finish setup.

“What about the HP print extension for USB printing to old non wireless or unable to use Google Cloud service printers ?”
What about it? Try it out. Worst case scenario it doesn’t work. But it might.
“What will happen when the Playstore apps are available?”
So far I haven’t been able to get an android app to print for me. Maybe this will change.
